Journal of Catalan Studies Revista internacional de catalanística ISSN: 1139-0271
Since its inception in 1998 the Journal of Catalan Studies has been the only academic review dedicated entirely to the promotion of Catalan Language and Culture via an exclusively electronic mode of publication. The present volume is devoted the Balearic Islands with the title of this monographic issue: Permeabilitats. La cultura i la societat contemporànies de les illes Balears com a espais de confluència. It features articles on the contemporary culture of the Balearics with particular regard to the islands’ response to the presence and pressures of global processes. The perception of self and other in literature is privileged as well as the negotiation between the local and the global in the fields of art, theatre, popular culture and the promotion of tourism. Recent social and political dynamics regarding the language, corruption in town planning and defence of the environment are also the object of attention. This number also includes a description of the research groups currently operating in the Balearic Islands, which can be found in our Reviews section.
The Editors are committed to the widest dissemination for material published by the journal and, as well as publishing on-line, they will continue to explore possibilities for the occasional publication of the contents of the journal with traditional presses. The pdf format employed means that articles published look like their conventionally printed counterparts and can be referenced like them, with download and printing also facilitated. Contributors are eagerly invited to submit their work with a view to publication.
Articles submitted to the journal will continue to be welcome in any language although the preferred media of the review are Catalan and English.
