LXVIII Anglo-Catalan Society Annual Conference
The LXVIII annual Anglo-Catalan Society’s conference will be held at the Universitat de les Illes Balears, Palma, from the 10th to the 11th of November 2023.
The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), created in 1978, is a cutting-edge public university for teaching and research. It has deep roots in the region and is committed to society, sowing values that honour humanity with an ever-increasing international calling. The UIB is a member of the Vives Network of Universities, which comprises 22 universities located in Catalan-speaking areas.
Although the UIB campus is located at the foot of the Tramuntana mountains, an area declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO, the conference venue will be Sa Riera Hall (Edifici Sa Riera), in the city center.
The city of Palma is served by one international airport (https://www.aena.es/ca/palma-demallorca.html). The city offers a wide range of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
For anyone wishing to book accommodation well in advance, this is a short list of hotels, which have been used by previous visitors to University events: Ars Magna Hotel, Hotel Palma Blanc, Hotel Palladium, Hotel Nou Baleares, Hotel Abelay, and Hotel Abelux. More options can be found online. Although it is further away from the congress venue, the university also has a Student Residence located on the university campus.
This year the conference local hosts are the research group LiCETC (Department of Catalan Studies) and the Vice Chancellorship of Cultural Projection and Open University.
